Western Spaghetti - PES

Here is the second of three of Pes' works that I have studied as part of my animation research.
This sketch involves making spaghetti Bolognese  once again with inanimate objects that have nothing to do with food. I think this is hugely creative how Pes has managed to give these items and features convincing characteristics of the things they are impersonating.

The first example shows the cooking pan being basted with tin foil. I completely appreciate the dedication this took as each piece would have had to be cut fresh to demonstrate fluid movement of the 'oil'

I love how the boiling water in the pot is portrayed using bubble wrap. With each frame the bubble wrap's position to mimic the bubbling of the water.

Ingredients that are added to the 'Bolognese' are cleverly thought out and are easy to identify. Such as the post it notes 'melting' in the pan like butter.

Even the process of chopping the ingredients is brilliant in the ways of which it has been animated. The single rubix cube piece is then chopped into tiny pieces.

I think Pes is brilliant at adopting unlikely objects and giving them accurate characteristics. Pes has used stop motion to allow said objects to become other things and have other properties.

Kristofer Strom's Hitchhikers choice

Another one of Strom's works caught my eye, and I thought it was extremely clever in terms of animation.

The artist did this entire piece using stop motion animation, like last time, except on a white board, which makes his illustrations clean and easy to change and manoeuvre. I think this is a brilliant idea!

I have print screened some examples of parts of the animation.

All of the elements and features included in this animation seem to evolve from one shape which gives the animation quite a flowing atmosphere and is easily followed by the veiwer.

I think the use of basic colours of the whiteboard pens is a novelty that works really well with the quick and creative doodling style of the artist.
I really like the patterning and the movement of all the animation, this is something I would like to try for my own project.

My thoughts on The Third Man Theme

I listened to my piece of music a few times to get a feel for it and familiarise myself with it.

I thought it was a light and mellow piece, quite bright and almost uplifting. The three main words I got from this was

Happy
Sunshine
Growth

I intend to base my project and concept around these three words.

Game over by Pes

Since being assigned an animation project I have been looking at some animation artists and different types of animation.
I have re dicscovered a practitioner who's work I used to love and I thought it his work would be very relevant and serve brilliantly as research for this project.

The practitioner goes by the name of "Pes" and works in Stop motion animation.

One of his animations "Game over" mimics well known game characteristics with unlikely objects such as food or ornaments.

Here is the first scene in the animation. Many of the features of the game are substituted for muffins and cupcakes. And as 'enemies' are killed off by candles, scores come up as numbered Birthday candles.

I really like how Pes uses stop motion to it's his full advantage by cutting away parts of the muffin with each frame to demonstrate it being eliminate and impersonating characteristics of a video game.

In this scene, Pes uses objects to imitate the game Frogger. I really love how he has used watches for the logs. And how they change size and position to enhance the look of movement.
